Advanced Heart Procedures
Cardiogenic Shock Management and Advanced Support
Cardiogenic shock occurs when the heart suddenly can’t pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs, often following a severe heart attack. Advanced treatments include mechanical devices to support the heart and improve blood flow.
How it works:
- Devices like intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP) or ventricular assist devices (VADs) are used to temporarily assist the heart’s pumping ability.
- It provides detailed images of the artery’s walls, plaques, and stents, allowing the doctor to accurately place treatments like stents or balloons.
When it’s needed:
- In patients experiencing cardiogenic shock, often after a major heart attack or heart failure.
Benefits:
- Increases survival chances in critically ill patients.
- Provides temporary support to allow the heart to recover.
